About Upside of Downs
Upside of Downs of Aiken was formed by a group of parents from the CSRA who had been brought together through Family Connection of South Carolina. When the Family Connection office in Aiken closed, the parents still had the desire to stay connected while trying to advocate for people with Down syndrome and educate the public about Down syndrome.
In 2011 the Upside of Downs of Aiken obtained 501(c)3 status.
We have monthly meetings where we are able to network and share information about our children and families. We frequently have speakers at these meetings sharing information on topics which may be of interest to our group. We also will have several social activities during the year.
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. To help celebrate Down syndrome awareness and inclusion, we sponsor the Aiken Buddy Walk.
March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day where we have a social activity.
We welcome anyone to attend our meetings or other events to become inspired by what individuals with Down syndrome can accomplish.
